New Releases for the New Year!

3 Jan

I have a confession to make: I very nearly gave up on this blog. Not enough people are reading it, I feel like I’m wasting my time and pulling time away from writing my own novel. And while that latter sentiment is very certainly true, I have come to the conclusion that, readers or no, this blog is not a waste of my time for several reasons. One, because much as I am prone to absolute laziness and am a pro at convincing myself that I really DO need to spend hours in front of the TV, binging on Joss Whedon and knitting millions of garments for loved ones, the fact of the matter is that I feel more myself when I write. So even if I’m not working on my novel as much as I could be, at least I am writing something, and I am staying deadly on top of what’s coming out (very important for my professional life), AND I am keeping my analytical skills honed. (This is not to say I will still not occasionally indulge in a serious knitathon Joss binge). So, without further ado, here are this weeks releases that at least moderately interest me.

12024430Title: Teeth
Author: Hannah Moskowitz
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Genre: fantasy
Blurb: Rudy’s life is flipped upside-down when his family moves to a remote island in a last attempt to save his sick younger brother. With nothing to do but worry, Rudy sinks deeper and deeper into loneliness and lies awake at night listening to the screams of the ocean beneath his family’s rickety house. Then he meets Diana, who makes him wonder what he even knows about love, and Teeth, who makes him question what he knows about anything. Rudy can’t remember the last time he felt so connected to someone, but being friends with Teeth is more than a little bit complicated. He soon learns that Teeth has terrible secrets. Violent secrets. Secrets that will force Rudy to choose between his own happiness and his brother’s life.
Excitement Factor: Yes please!

12558285Title: Splintered
Author: A.G. Howard
Publisher: Amulet Books
Genre: fantasy
Blurb: Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.
When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.
Excitement factor: Yes, please!

Happy reading!
